2010 Resident Camp

2010 Resident Camp
August 19-22, 2010

A long, long time ago, even before your mom or dad were born, there were Cub Scouts just like you who enjoyed the outdoors and camping and hiking and biking and earning all sorts of Scouting badges.

Things were different back then because there were no TVs, CDs, DVD's, battery operated toys (you had to wind them up), skateboards or snow boards or shoes with little wheels in the heels, cell phones, email and lots of other stuff.  But, boy oh boy, did Scouts have fun.  And what they had fun with then has a lot to do with what you have fun with today.

This year at Camp Sequassen's Cub Scout/Webelos Scout Resident Camp we're going to look back a hundred years to get a vision of what's ahead.  For instance: Ever hear of a "cat's whisker?"  It took a long time but cat whiskers led to iPODs.  And in another hundred years iPODs are going to lead to . . . (to be continued at Camp Sequassen).  Hope to see you there.

What you need to know.......
Last Update: June 15, 2010

There will be a resident camp meeting for parents this Thursday June 17th at the Congregational Church 20 Gillotti Road at 8:00 pm. Please review the information here and write down your questions.

To expedite your arrival at camp we would like to have a copy of your medical forms by Sunday July 11th. This way we can submit them to the camp and if they have a problem with the information on the form they will notify you so it can be corrected. Also bring a copy with you. If you wait to bring the form to camp when you arrive and there is missing information or it is not complete you will not be allowed into camp. These regulation are mandated by the state of CT. not the BSA. Both scout and caregiver need medical forms.

Leaving Camp while it is in session:
The camp can not stress enough that if you need to leave camp you need to sign out and inform Matt Lagas or Brian Anderson. In case of an emergency we need to know if you are on the property or not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Advancement:
At camp there is an opportunity to earn advancement that is hard to achieve elsewhere. We would recommend that if you are going to work on advancement that you might work on things that you can only get at camp. Please do not over do it. It is just as important just to have fun!

Draft Agendas:
Bear Wolf Draft Agenda
Webelos Draft Agenda

Webelos need to bring their hand book if they plan on working on their advancement.
Any advancement that your Scout earns, you are responsible for the safe keeping of the documents that you are given especially shooting sports. A copy needs to be turned in to your Den Leader to receive the advancement award. If your child loses it or your dog ate it too bad. No document no award.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whittling Chip:
Any scout going into third grade can participate in Whittling Chip. Whittling chip is a basic knife, axe, and saw safety course. The instructors use ivory soap for the scouts to carve. Please bring an extra couple of bars as the scouts tend to whittle off to much and need to try again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Group Picture:
If you are considering purchasing a group picture the camp would like know to ahead of time so we will need to collect for that as well by July 11th.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Swim Test:
If you are going to try and get your swim test done before camp you need a copy of the certified individuals credentials & CPR Card.

Swim Tests:
Swim Test 1

Swim Test 2

These documents also need to be turned in to Brian Anderson by July 11th.
It is not a big deal to take you swim test at camp. But it will give you more time in the morning to get set up with less rushing around.

Swimmers are classified as white (beginner), red (novice), and blue (swimmer).

To use camp canoes two (2) individuals in the canoe need to blue swimmers. If you take three (3) in a canoe you can have two blue and one red, no white.

To use a row boat you can have at least one blue and a red swimmer can go out with a blue swimmer.

White swimmers can not use any water craft.

The camp has asked that women would please not wear bikini swim wear.
If that is all you own then it would be preferred that you wear a tee shirt.

Camp Sleeping Arrangements:
Our camp site is pleasantly full. We are faced with the fact that we are all not going to fit in our camp site. The camp has indicated that they might set up some tent platforms or some of us will be in other campsites near by. We use a lottery system to determine who sleeps where.
